Kay Wheatley -- Norwich Dance Instructor
I started Egyptian dance under the expert tutelage of Lorraine Theobold.
Lorraine has continually encouraged and supported me throughout the time I have been dancing and performing. It was Lorraine who gave me the confidence and opportunity to start my own dance class. I have now been teaching Egyptian dance since 2011.
Continuous Professional Development
Egyptian dance has become a passion of mine: a subject that will provide me with life-long learning, as I constantly strive to improve and refine my technique and understanding of this dance genre.
To this end, I attend specialist Egyptian Dance Festivals, workshops and master-classes here in the UK with either Egyptian trained or Egyptian dance teachers. I have also appeared in Shows (organised by Farida Dance, such as Cairo Carousel and Egyptian Experience) and received mentoring aimed at advanced dancers wishing to develop professional performance skills.
I travel to Egypt (the birthplace of this art form) at least once a year to keep my dance skills up to date. It's a wonderful opportunity to take inspiration from the source. I try to keep my style as authentic as possible by attending Festivals, training courses and receiving private tuition from some of the top names in Egyptian dance.
These trips also provide me with an opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of the country. I seek to discover the magic and soul of Egypt through its people, its culture and history, as well as its dance.

"Egyptian dance is a beautiful and feminine dance form. Dancing is a great way to have fun whilst exercising. It's great for increasing stamina and overall flexibilty and suppleness."
